Dear friends, at Bright Kids, we haven’t paused for a moment since the beginning of the new year. The first quarter of 2025 has been three months of dedicated, compassionate, and meaningful work. Thanks to the generous support of our trusted partners — GlobalGiving (USA), Poki (Netherlands), and individual donors from all over the world — we were able to implement dozens of initiatives that truly changed lives for the better.
We’d like to share a summary of our project activity and the achievements of the Bright Kids team during this period. These past months were filled with high-impact, long-awaited initiatives. The total project budget for the quarter amounted to UAH 2,370,143.75 (USD 57,151.66).
One of the most significant achievements this quarter was the support provided to the Znamyanka Children’s Residential Institution — a home for 147 children with severe developmental disabilities, many of whom are bedridden or use wheelchairs. We delivered an industrial-grade washing machine, two electric stoves, a large professional skillet, and a dishwasher. These seemingly simple additions significantly improved the facility’s hygiene and operations, easing the staff’s workload and enhancing the children’s daily lives.
Our continued support for the Kirovohrad Regional Children’s Hospital also remained a critical priority. As the only pediatric hospital in the region that provides life-saving care for newborns and critically ill children, the facility received a mechanical ventilator – essential equipment that can truly save a child’s life. Additionally, we provided the hospital with medications and daily-use medical supplies for its intensive care and neonatal units.
Another key focus of our work this quarter was rehabilitation support for children with disabilities. We covered the cost of eight rehabilitation courses that gave children a chance to improve their health and development. We also supported 12 mothers raising children with disabilities by helping them launch or grow their small businesses — providing equipment, materials, or training, depending on each family’s specific needs. These mothers are true symbols of resilience, strength, and hope.
We also did not overlook families in crisis. For the families supported by our partners at the Zarady Zhyttia NGO, we purchased infant formula, diapers, baby wipes, children’s food, and essential groceries for entire households — basic necessities that, sadly, remain out of reach for many, especially in frontline or recently de-occupied regions.
We continued our commitment to educational support:
– Delivered school supplies to the Kmytiv orphanage, ensuring that children can continue learning in wartime conditions;
– Purchased construction materials for ongoing renovations at the Dovbysh orphanage, helping create safe and dignified learning and living conditions for children there.
We also provided targeted individual support:
– Little Sviatoslav, who lives with diabetes and requires constant monitoring, received a specialised blood glucose monitoring system,
– We also provided food and hygiene items for Maksym and his courageous mother, who, despite facing severe hardships, continues to fight daily for her child’s well-being.
A particular highlight of this quarter was the continued operation of the Bright Kids Centre in Berestyn, Kharkiv region. After the initial project period ended, we received additional support from our corporate partner Poki, allowing us to keep the doors of the centre open for another four months. More than 128 children — including those from displaced, low-income, large, or crisis-affected families — now visit the centre every day. It’s a space where they can play, learn, socialise, feel safe, and receive vital emotional and educational support. Most importantly, it is a place where they are truly heard.
Every one of these actions is more than just a bullet point in a report. It’s a clean shirt that restores dignity. It’s a ventilator that saves a life. It’s a mother who finally gets a chance to work. It’s a child who no longer stays silent.
